Jaydiohead- Change Order (Link 2)
The look of The Cold Cut has changed, which is great. It looks pretty… yada yada yada. However, the content of this site (and there is a lot of it) is really unstructured and I feel that it may have been reducing my output and making things harder for you guys.
This is all going to change, starting today. I sat down this afternoon and decided to completely rethink my posting structure…
From this day forward, there will be 9 main categories which will in one way or another, define the content of each and every post. Hopefully these will allow me to be more on point and will also let you know what to expect before you start reading. They are as follows (with a short description, also featured on the ‘101′ page- coming soon):
- Post-it: we all lead busy lives here… as much as I wish The Cold Cut could take over (and fund) my waking moments, we aren’t quite there yet. Post-it’s accommodate for those days when I have no time but a tune just has to be heard.
- Absolute: A definitive look at a topic. This type could include a look at a band from its conception to now, or a look at a new genre of music. See my old ‘Definitive’ posts, and multiply by x.
- Breakdown: I once wrote a track by track review of Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Cool’. It was one of the most intensive writing experiences I’ve ever faced, but this kind of challenge requires you to read into the music, and find the noteworthy aspects of every song (good or bad). The post garnered a lot of attention (including comments from the album producers) and to this day remains the number 1 most popular post (search ‘Lupe Fiasco, The Cool review’ on Google) of 865000 similar ones. I suppose I was onto a good thing, and in lieu of this, I am aiming to review every album this way, except…
- The Gist: …when, again, I neither have the will nor skill to spend hours reviewing an album. In these cases, a few sentences/paragraphs will suffice. It’s not a cop out- I promise- rather another way of approaching an album, and covering the bases.
- Rundown: This world moves so fast that I miss most of the noteworthy events, even in music. I’m more than happy (if you are) to post music/news a little later when essential.
- Topical: The trends and controversies in music are changing all the time, and I want to make sure this site keeps up to date with relevant developments and themes (see the recent Auto-Tune post).
- Untouched: New music is the staple of any music site. Untouched is where I will talk gratuitously about ‘the next Oasis’, ‘the next Prince’ and so on. Keep those submissions coming… I will do a 1000 unread email round-up soon, I promise.
- Mixtapes: I put together a few different mixtapes whilst under blogspot, and they were really enjoyable, if a little mediocre. ‘The Cool’ still exists, and I’m planning Volume IV. Expect more cohesive tracklisting.
- Showing: Music videos are the collision of two distinct worlds- audio and video. I’ll be hosting/posting worthy videos often.
These last two are in brackets as they are potentials (time permitting)
- (Podcasts)- Whilst on blogspot, I messed around with podcasting, and I hope to be able to carry that initial experience forward. Watch this space…
- (DJ/TCC)- I’ve been messing around for a while now on my decks and also in music production/music. I hope to be able to post some of the results in the near future.
Let me know whether this new style floats your boat- I decided to do this to make things easier for everyone, so let me know if it isn’t working. On the other hand, a little bit of positive feedback does more for me that you will ever know, so please feel free to boost the old ego! Cheers.

Sounds great! I’ve also been looking at how I write my posts.
