‘Welcome To Heartbreak’ was the perfect opening for ‘808’s & Heartbreak’. It was equal parts solemn and epic, included a great featuring spot from Kid Cudi, and was arguably the strongest song (lyrically) on the album.

I’m disappointed the song wasn’t chosen as a single (’Amazing’ is being released, instead), but the new video matches the song’s quality.

There are some nice frame and lighting effects at play, but the most striking feature is a new pixelation technique that the directors have employed. It basically involves images being generated from images- ie Kanye walks out of Kanye’s glasses, if you get what I mean. Anyway, this is another solid addition to the Heartbreak family, and further proves the fact that Kanye still has that creative spark. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if the pixel effect was intended, but after it twigs you realise how awesome the technique is. Any thoughts?
