The Goldheart Assembly – So Long St Christopher

Beardy chaps

Never has the selling point of a band been so easily summed up for a lazy hack looking for a quick post: British Fleet Foxes.

I am assuming that this latest single from the boys with the hearts of gold comes with a free stick-on beard to stroke whilst listening,  such is the ear-hugging folk loveliness of the harmonizing here.

This will be ruined by drunk people at many a campfire sing-along  for years to come:  “So Long…” is an ideal soundtrack to the sun going down at festivals the world over, and I’m sure that an impromptu set in the Stone Circle at Glastonbury isn’t out of the question.

Apparently the Goldhearts can also do rocky songs (threatened at by the nearly-U-turn into a psych-rock freakout towards the end of this cut), but I’m sure that I’m not alone in praying that they’ve got a ballad of this quality for every saint in the Catholic canon.
