The title of this post is ‘Eminem- 3AM’, as I am, unfortunately, required to state the facts. I doubt, however, Eminem would ever dispute that this is most certainly a song by Marshall, the darker side of his personality.
I’m sorry to say that the video is the most interesting aspect of 3AM, his third single from ‘Relapse’. Once you look beyond the gory video and actually listen to Eminem’s flow, well, he’s definitely lost some of his punch:
“It’s 3 a.m in the mornin
Put my key in the door
There’s bodies layin all of the floor and
I don’t remember how they got there but I guess I must of killed em
Killed em”
The same signs can be seen on the other leak ‘Old Time’s Sake (ft. Dr. Dre)’… the lyrics just aren’t there. Dre wipes the floor with Em’ on the latter track, but we can see signs of improvement. It’s not quite the return we were hoping for, but at least he’s making music again.

Ultimately, rap has moved on. This album has been in production for a few years at least, and that has contributed to this ‘time-gap’. Whilst Eminem adopts a strange voice, reduces the intellectual content of his raps and introduces extremely dark content, there are guys like Lupe and Kanye doing far more intelligent things with their music. We had the merge of rock and rap, ‘Dumb It Down’ and ‘Heartbreak’, to name a few milestones. The list goes on, and 3AM isn’t doing Eminem any commercial favours, as it’s essentially ‘Stan-lite’. The best thing about this song, the video, is already said to be ‘too gory’ for terrestrial TV, so the single may sink. Sad times.
What do you think of the new single?
