Amidst ‘Boom Boom Pows’ deserved domination of the charts, one member of Black Eyed Peas has been crafting a sneaky side project. Whilst he denies it, everyone and their pet dog knows that Zuper Blahq is, in fact, Will.i.am. He must be playing the long game- both he and Fergie have focused on their solo careers for a few years now; is a break-up the next surpise Black Eyed Peas are going to deliver?

It’s just too convenient- Black Eyed Peas start making their most complex material to date, and a new artist who sounds exactly like their front-man starts making throw-back house music.

I’m not complaining, however. I think a bit of anonymity always spices things up- see Daft Punk, Japanese Cartoon et al. As for the music, it’s refreshing to see the stronger side of Will.i.am shining through. He’s passable as a front-man, but as a producer there are few that consistently work to such high standards. I’ve always held the opinion that he should have stayed behind the mixing desk, but I’m open to change and it looks as if BEP are on to a good thing.

Dim Mak must be wringing their hands in anticipation… as promos go, ‘Here We Go’ is about as good as it gets. Indulgant hand claps, vocal samples and a catchy chorus set things up nicely: ‘Here we go, here we go, go, go… Here we go, now, now, n-o-o-o-w.’ I’m sold.
