I’ve just spent the majority of the last two hours trying to find a definitive story on the latest Lil’ Wayne track. Provisionally titled ‘Triggerman’, a 1 minute snippet featuring Lil’ Wayne arrived a few weeks ago, only to be followed up a few days ago with a full length track. It’s a messy leak and we’ve been waiting for some concrete details to emerge.
And yet, no one seems to be able to definitively classify who this track belongs to, who the vocals are from, and what the ultimate destiny of this fantastic track are. I’m going to try and clear things up…
First of all, the song does not yet feature Madonna. She is said to be in the studio, laying down a vocal now… but as is common these days, the beat was offered to a number of the most popular pop artists (starting with Katy Perry, Flo Rida and then dotting around). Madonna’s management are said to have been interested- see Hard Candy Music for the full story.
RaVaughn- Revolver (Solo Vocal) (Link 2) (Link 3)
The version above is believed to be the final solo vocal reference. The lead is RaVaughn, a highly regarded backing vocalist (see this article at Madonnatribe.com for the full story), who laid down some demo vocals- they’re brilliant, and you might question why the track isn’t being released as it is. The backing is chart-baiting, with dense synths complemented by heavy claps. There are no male vocal harmonies (as in the version featuring Wayne), and it sounds far more polished, with some extra verses added on:
‘You’ve been hit by a smooth criminal… a bad girl. I got you crying so your momma sayin: ‘I can’t believe it’. I seen your type, bring a knife into a gun fight, caught up in love, right? Think I’m in love, right?’

There is, however, more in this yet… the only definitive piece of information is that the final version of this song will feature Lil’ Wayne. Someone even went to the trouble of generating the following image- note the ‘M’ on the bullet. And on the secondary version of the track, his verses (from the ‘Triggerman’ snippet) are included. Combined with the above image, it’s hard to claim this song is anything other than a huge metaphor for sex- the lyrics are suggestive and if you aren’t convinced, look closely at the shape of the bullet and the style of the text:
‘The victim didn’t complain, she just screamed: ‘Shoot again’. I gave her extra rounds, my barrel twist around… I love using weapon, and yes I use it well…. I never shoot and tell, I only shoot to kill… My love is a revolver.’
He’s on great form, coupled with a brilliant female foil and a strong beat. Auto-Tune is out of the question…
Lil’ Wayne ft. RaVaughn- Revolver (Demo) (Link 2) (Link 3)
Either way, this is a fantastic demo which will survive the leak on the quality of the beat/song structure. The final version (for Madonna’s Greatest Hits collection) will be fantastic if Madonna decides to take it on…
seriously, this song is off the hook, brilliant, poppy and the future #1. i don’t have any doubts.
