Update: Tickets for This Is It go on sale in the UK this Sunday at 12:01am.

Hi everyone- long time no post. I’m back, and I actually have some really, really exciting things in the pipeline. First things first, I now write for Consequence Of Sound- see my bio and archive. I am allowed to re-post my articles on The Cold Cut, and therefore there should be a steady stream of good material posted here, whatever happens!

The original article can be found over at the site.

Earlier this week, we told you that a soundtrack will indeed be accompanying the release of the upcoming Michael Jackson feature film This Is It. Today, we know what exactly will be making up said soundtrack.

First and foremost, as NME reports, the forthcoming soundtrack will close with a brand new single, coincidentally entitled… “This Is It”.

The song — out October 12th — is said to feature backing vocals from his brothers (although whether they were on the original single is questionable), and arrives a week before the film and accompanying album. See what they did there? The two disc album follows with an October 26th release date, two days before the two week cinematic run of the rehearsal documentary begins.

The single –- the first in a long list of unreleased material — will also be featured in the credits for the forthcoming film. “This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows – that Michael is one of God’s greatest gifts,” said John McClain, co-director of the forthcoming documentary. High expectations all around.

As if that wasn’t already enough, the rest of the soundtrack’s composition looks equally captivating. According to Rolling Stone, disc one will contain the original album masters of the hit songs included in This Is It, sequenced in the order that they appear in the film, while disc two will include previously unreleased versions of some of Jackson’s most famous songs, plus an unreleased spoken word track of a poem written by Jackson titled, “Planet Earth”.

For a taster of the forthcoming documentary, watch the recently premiered clip of MJ blocking “Human Nature”:

I don’t really believe in ‘writer’s block’. Although I often experience exactly the symptoms, I believe it is more down to pure laziness than a sudden inability to express myself with words. Therefore, I need to take a break this summer, and I just wanted to formalise that! I’m going to be working on the skills that pay the bills (website design, writing) so that when I return to this site, I can be happy with what I’m producing on a day to day basis. I’ve got some exciting ideas, but I need to learn how to execute them, and that’s the plan for the rest of the summer. I’ll be sporadically posting, but nothing major. A proper re-launch is coming, I promise.

Imogen Heap- First Train Home | Link 2

Imogen Heap’s production values have always been absolutely pristine, and this is very much the same. Remember “Hide & Seek”? Of course you do- well, “First Train Home” uses the same vocal layering affect, albeit more as one of many tricks rather than the vocoder effects that made “Hide & Seek” such an essential, popular hit. “First Train Home” is already confirmed as the opening track and first single for her latest album, Ellipse, due out on August 25th.

I had never considered the possibility. I took him for granted. This news, that the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson, passed away on Thursday is absolutely crushing, a blow that makes me sick to my stomach. I have been considering the best way to remember him for the last few days, yet nothing that I can say or do will change the fact that we have lost a true pioneer. Most things have already been said, so in this tribute I’ve tried to express how I feel and also to collate some of the speculation, alongside musical memories (see the end of the post). I’ll be posting a true musical tribute soon.

Michael Jackson collapsed at his California residence at around noon Pacific time on Thursday, June 25th. His personal doctor attempted to resuscitate him at the scene, before an ambulance arrived and took him to UCLA Medical Centre. Jackson was prounounced dead at 2.26 PM, from a suspected cardiac arrest. Michael was just short of his 51st Birthday.

However, a recording of the 911 call and a video of the ambulance’s departure point towards the possibility that there was never any hope for Michael. The urgency which you might expect was not there- the ambulance making multiple attempts to reverse out of the drive and no mention being made in the 911 call made that this was Michael Jackson’s residence. There have been reports that the ambulance team wanted to pronounce Michael dead at his house, but his personal doctor would not allow them to make ‘the call’.

An autopsy was performed on Saturday, with results pointing to no foul-play in the death- the Jackson family have already suggested they will request a second autopsy, and toxicology results from the first may take weeks to arrive. Michael’s personal cardiologist (Dr. Conrad Murray) was believed to be ‘on the run’ but has since co-operated with the investigation. It was initially believed that he administered a fatal dose of painkillers (Demerol, specifically) to Michael prior to his death, but was earlier told he was ‘free to go’.

Lisa Marie Presley’s (his first wife) outpouring also supports this fact- Michael purportedly said, in reference to the circumstances of her father’s (Elvis Presley) death “I am afraid that I am going to end up like him”. Michael’s supposed addiction started through back pain, and some say it was a vice that he was unable to beat.

This is the most affecting news for a long, long time. In the modern era, the effects are uncharted. Twitter closed down and Google went into self-defence mode as the number of queries for the term “michael jackson” rocketed beyond what was programmed into the systems. MTV devoted their entire network to Michael for 48 hours- fitting, considering all his work on the crossover video hits, including “Thriller” and “Bad”. And already, numerous artists have recorded tribute songs (see below).

His albums instantly found their way back onto the charts, occupying the top 12 spots on the Amazon UK CD bestsellers list and he has his first UK number one for six years with his “Number Ones” album. Fellow artists have all made their statements, and TIME have rushed out a commemorative issue.

The public outpouring is totally unprecendented, in my opinion unmatched since Princess Diana and John F. Kennedy’s death. The latter was before my time, and in Diana’s case, I feel the reception was more muted respect. Michael’s music has affected most people in some shape or form, and even those who aren’t great fans are paying their dues, admitting that this is a huge loss for the world, not just music.

Jackson’s comeback at the O2 arena was scheduled to begin on July 13th, mere weeks away. Many were hoping for a triumphant return, and on these terms, Michael will never get that chance to finally put the questions to rest. AEG (the tour promoters/organisers) stand to lose a lot of money, and the situation regarding the refund of tickets is starting to be released. I was one of the lucky few with a ticket to see him at the O2. On September 21st, I would have seen his ‘This Is It’ tour in London. It is a bizarre twist of fate- I have always held seeing him perform live as one of my musical targets in life, alongside many modern fans.

What of the man? His appearance and personal life polarised opinion and was the precursor to the modern paparazzi culture, but no one can argue that Michael made unmatched contributions to the world of music, raising the level of performance and recorded music.

His well-charted relationship with plastic surgery and health fads (hyperbaric chambers and masks- the latter an ‘illusion’) tarnished his image, alongside the tempestuous allegations of child-molestation. He was cleared of all charges, but never looked the same man. Those who know him well regularly comment on his health, and he was said to be in good shape for the O2 residency, having danced and sung in rehearsal on Wednesday night.

His character had it’s flaws, largely due to his highly unusual childhood. He was, however, a person with the best intentions at heart, clearly shown through his endless contributions to charities and people less fortunate. His talent was unquestionable, blessed with a pure voice and the Midas touch. His choreography is just as relevant today, and he raised the level of musical performance, directly influencing all those who produce music today. I share the opinion that someone like Michael Jackson only comes along once- he is simply untouchable.

Personally, I have many ‘musical moments’ with MJ’s albums. I remember searching endlessly for a live version of “Scream” on Youtube, finally finding one of the only performances on the History tour when he went it alone, without the backing track. And it is truly, truly impressive, one of his best performances to date (see below). “Thriller” soundtracked my mid-teens, exploring all the music that I had missed due to my age. I found “Money”, a real gem, on History. There are so many potential singles, spanning across his career, that never got the attention they deserved.

I really hope his family release the remaining material, including his as-yet unreleased album and video recordings of his rehearsals for the O2 performances. The ‘Dangerous’ tour tapes can be found on Youtube (”Beat It” below), and are the best display of his performing talent and character. For the latter part of his career, Michael mimed in many of his performances, but in the tapes he sings and dances, even adding in the sound effects and guitar solos when the sound team miss the cues. It is a special reminder of his talents, to see him with his guard down, having fun on stage, the place where he was ‘most comfortable’.

There are promising signs for the future- a catalog of 100 unreleased songs was kept for Michael’s children, but the debt which he accumulated will probably force their sale. Jackson has purportedly racked up $400 million of debts, but his death may be the only thing that can change the tide- industry analysts are already predicting 1 billion record sales (a huge increase from his charted 750 million) which should clear his estate of all outstanding costs. The back-catalogues are linked to his children’s trust funds, so the creditors won’t be able to touch it.

I am sure there are still a few more twists and turns to his story- I’ll be keeping the site up to date with any further developments. This is tragic, but I hope we always remember Michael the performer, the badass, the pioneer. He was taken before his time. Rest in peace, the King Of Pop. We will never forget you.

Well, first I hope you are all having a fantabulous weekend- I must apologise for a continuing lack of updates, loads of stuff going on for me at the moment.

I have some very good news, however. I’m currently working on an entirely new design for The Cold Cut. I’ve been hoping to do this for a long time but now that I have the summer holidays, it seems like a logical point to take on the task. I’m going to be integrating a whole heap of features into the design, so if you have any requests, leave a comment.

The whole idea is to simplify the user experience- I’ll keep you posted on design progress and should get some posts up in the mean-time. Anyhoo, I didn’t want to post without at least a few cool tid-bits for you to look at/listen to so enjoy!

E-603 does something new with mash-ups. Immuzikation’s successor?

A very well executed fan video for Florence And The Machine’s “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)”

Music videos are interesting little additions to the image a band projects. And for so many years, since they first came to public fruition, I’ve been waiting for a video of the Gossip just being ‘there’- none of this cartoon background larkey of “Standing In The Way…”or the busy “Listen Up”. With some bands, I’m always hoping for a big new idea since I don’t feel their persona is enough to carry across the idea of a song. Kasabian showed how a cool idea can lift a song with ‘Shoot The Runner’, taking Apple’s iPod advert groundwork and then adding paint. It was genius.

The Gossip are different. Say what you want about Beth Ditto, the girl has serious style, and I want to see more of them being themselves. And that is why I am so happy the day has finally come. In the video to their new single “Heavy Cross” (from the forthcoming Music For Men), they just belt out the damn thing, of course with arty backlighting and glitter effects. “Heavy Cross” is out today and is an absolute beast of a record, far and away some of their strongest material- it has all the boxes checked, the raw aggression and passion unchecked but with some much improved song structure, down to Rick Rubin, who produced the record.

Watching the video for the first time, I instantly thought of Lady GaGa, and her quirky ’style’. Beth gets once over on her by wearing funky head-gear in the video, combined with a catsuit. Oh, and she can shoot glitter from her hands, like a modern day version of Jubilee. Take that, Germanotta.

I find the controversy surrounding Ditto totally unnecessary. And I would like to point out that if Beth was a small waif like ‘normal’ girl, that voice, the incredible Ditto wonder, would not be blessing our ears. We have so much more to hear from this band, the saga isn’t over with yet.

The video is also a great excuse to post some of the fantastic remixes that we missed first time around. Fred Falke is a bit of an unsung hero, and he turns the formerly breakneck song into a near-9 minute ballad with an epic bridge to complement the origianal. In the Burns remix, we are treated to some understated percussion which then transforms into a floor-filler. And if you are unconvinced at the live potential, fear not- we have Culture Bully to thank for a mp3 version of Gossip’s performance of “Heavy Cross” on Friday Night With… Jonathan Ross. All together, this song is an anthem for ‘09, and will no doubt be on many of our year end lists.

In other news, I was meant to attend a fan party in London with free booze and the first play through of the new album, but it was cancelled. No news yet on the reschedule, but there will be one. We’ll cover the event if it happens! Stay tuned- we will be back to normal business from tomorrow, when my laptop is finally fixed!

Two Suns was incredible. I’ve long kept my distance from the work of singer songwriters, but Natasha Khan (or Bat For Lashes) definitely had the pedigree to draw me in- Mercury Award Nominations work wonders with the press. And let’s not forget Laura Marling, an altogether different proposition- less ethereal but no less essential.

The first female singer songwriter I really ‘dug’, however, was Florence Welch of Florence And The Machine. I’m kind of ashamed to admit that the main reason I discovered her was through Lightspeed Champion, one of my favourite male songwriters. His live act is made up of touring musicians and a female songstress, usually either Florence or Emmy The Great. It makes for tight live performances.

Florence is now taking time to follow her own musical ambitions and needless to say, the hype is enormous. Performances at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, a spread in the Daily Telegraph magazine a few days ago and even the Critic’s choice award at this year’s Brit Awards all prove that she has got ‘it’. You have to pinch yourself, though- she has yet to even release an album. There has always been a question in my mind: can she fight with the true heavyweights?

On the basis of this, yes. ‘Cosmic Love’, a potential single from her debut album Lungs, is a tour de force. Journalists are correctly drawing immediate comparisons between this effort and “Glass” from Two Suns. It has all the elements, but bats away the similarities as ‘flattery’ rather than downright imitation. The song slides in and then rapidly lifts off, potentially before we have even taken notice. The instrumentation is very frantic, and whilst most would be wary of this dominating proceedings, Florence’s voice holds court. This is simply essential.

Thanks to Brad from MuuMuse for bringing this one to our attention. Florence And The Machine’s debut album Lungs is available from 6th July. Pre-order.

NB- Apologies- slow site and very little content over the last week. Working out the server-side problems, and should have some cool site improvements coming your way in the next few weeks. Thanks. W

Does the guy ever sleep? I’d appreciate any inside info on his work arrangements, as Lil’ Wayne must be spending the majority of his waking hours in the recording booth. See above for a collated list of his achievments. In 2009 alone, we can look forward to ‘Rebirth’, a huge pile of mixtapes and ‘Tha Carter IV’- apparently near completion. That doesn’t even include a number of demos (’Yes’, ‘Red Rum’ etc) and the musical crime that will be T-Wayne. He’s also studying for a degree, has 2 kids, a record label and a number of other endeavours. The guy is just incredibly busy! Whilst it’s essentially impossible to keep up, enjoy some of the best new material with Wayne attached:

Lil’ Wayne- Kobe Bryant (Link 2) (Link 3)

I’m late on this one, but it’s hard to resist the allure of this tribute to Kobe Bryant. It’s really great that Wayne was willing to step in- it’s obvious that Kobe needed an ego boost right now- I mean, professional basketball players must really struggle with confidence, what with all the millions they earn and the fans’ adulation. Someone should explore the possibility of this being a joint venture- if Wayne starts appearing in executive boxes at Lakers games, a deal has been done!

Still, this is a well thought out dedication, and Kobe must be beaming. The production is deceptively simple, a hi-hat, basic synth line and not much else. The real genius is in the recordings “He’s the best player in the game… he will shoot from the perimeter, he will get all in your mug, he will do whatever it takes. He is the most complete basketball player in the game today, ball or not… he has an assassin’s mentality.”

Drake ft. Lil’ Wayne & Young Jeezy- I’m Goin In (Link 2) (Link 3)

This track has been flying around for months, with numerous tags. A lot of material is leaking early, with incorrect tags and DJ call-outs. See- ‘Revolver’ and ‘The Leak’. This is said to be the final version that will appear on the now formalised collaborative album between Wayne and a number of different artists on Young Money, his record label.

It’s really, really impressive. Drake has been taking tips from Wayne (Rolling Stone interview), and his lyricism has come an incredibly long way since the early mixtapes. Another collaboration is expected for his album ‘Thank Me Later’, out in late 2009 as well as unconfirmed releases with Jay-Z and Mary Jay Blige. 2009 is a huge year for this guy.

Young Money Feat. Lil Wayne, Drake, Jae Millz, Gutta & Mack Maine- Every Girl (Link 2) (Link 3)

Wayne is still able to mix it with anyone- in ‘Every Girl’ we are treated to a traditional rap ballad. He still loves the old Auto-Tune, and it definitely gives this a 90’s vibe. Summer tune, all the way, although I wonder how he will react to Jay’s first cut from ‘The Blueprint III’? It’s a fairly by-numbers affair called ‘D.O.A. (Death Of Autotune)’, but a nice teaser for the highly anticipated album:

Jay-Z – D.O.A. (Death Of Auto-Tune) (Link 2) (Link 3)

That concludes this very brief rap rundown- time has been really short this week, service will be back to normal from the weekend.

Patrick Wolfs ‘The Bachelor’ finally arrived on June 1st… the reviews are much better than we had expected- 7/10 from NME, and 4/5 from Q magazine. I personally love the album, for all it’s inherent flaws (strings, overblown, close to collapse!). I just hope Patrick sees some sense in reigning the production on ‘The Conqueror’, the follow up which is due in 2010. I’ve had enough strings and choral backing vocals for a while…

Out of the blue comes a remix (from Jack Beats) of ‘Hard Times’ the second single from the album. This rework is simply genius, affixing a huge undulating synth line and wooden click-clacks to one of the strongest songs from Wolf’s 4th studio album. This becomes the dark song that it probably should have been- bell chimes and hand drums bring in more percussion, always one of the key aspects of Patrick’s albums.

Shame about the official video, which is below. That’s two strikes for 2009- the S&M themed video for ‘Vulture’ was also really disappointing. I can see the ambition but it really seems as if Patrick is firing blanks here. What do you think- the neon/kaleidoscope effect is pretty cool, but as the premise of a video, it doesn’t stand up very well…

Will: To welcome in the summer, we attended Stag & Dagger, an independent music festival held in Shoreditch, a place some call the hub of the indie community in London. I would probably agree- the pure quantity of checked lumberjack shirts, aviators and perilously skinny jeans suggests that Shoreditch is a living, breathing fashion statement. I’ll leave it at that, to avoid offending anyone!

Stag & Dagger is held across 20 venues in East London, with admission to each venue covered by a single wristband. The overall ticket costs £15, with around 120 bands playing across the venues, including Michachu & The Shapes, Cold War Kids, Lovefoxxx, Wild Beasts and White Denim. We took some photos as well, be sure to click through to see them at full size…

We started with Maps at The Legion. The queues were fairly small for most venues, but once inside, the band had already started and a sizeable crowd had built up. There were a number of pissed-off punters loitering outside after being told, no wristband, no entry, as Stag & Dagger had essentially taken over the whole area (making it easy to quickly move between venues)…

I’ve seen Maps before, and it seems as if things haven’t moved too far from the original formula of two guys, a girl and some mixing boards. The real star is, of course, James Chapman, who writes all the music and only brought in back-up for his live shows. His debut album ‘We Can Create’ was released in 2007 and consequently Mercury Award nominated. The density of the live sound calls out Animal Collective and friends, except all the noises are generated on mixing boards. The new direction is a departure- have a listen to ‘Here We Go (Dub)’, which was released on 11th May, and is the first offering from his follow up ‘Turning The Mind’, out this summer.

Maps- Let Go Of The Fear (Dub) (Link 2) (Link 3)

We moved over to Bar Music Hall for arguably the biggest draw of the night (barring White Denim and Cold War Kids). The Temper Trap were, simply, incredible! They’re still at the stage where they carry all their equipment themselves and set up the stage, which was interesting. Lead singer Dougy even sat around drinking pints before and after the gig… we couldn’t pluck up the guts to interview him, but who knows what the future may hold!

Michael: This is the second time that I’ve seen Aussie imports The Temper Trap. The first time, the venue they played in was so small that you could hardly move without bumping into a PR company cameraman, and their sound felt like it was being boxed in.

The Temper Trap- Love Lost (BBC Introducing Session) (Link 2) (Link 3)

This time is different – Stag & Dagger festival is in full swing, Shoreditch has its party hat on, and the spacious rafters of Bar Music Hall suggest that they, and their music, might be given room to breath. The band shuffle on stage awkwardly, and what strikes is how little they seem like a band at all: visually they are disparate, with little of the “Last Gang in Town” look about them. This is Shoreditch, after all, and so it’s perhaps inevitable that the crowd look marginally more colourful than the band.

Once they start playing, the visual comparisons cease to matter. TTT open with a clattering slab of noise rock, and as their set flexes it becomes rapidly obvious that this is a very special, unusually polished band: they absolutely reek of The Big Time, and Sweet Disposition, with its shimmering sheet of U2 guitar and falsetto vocals, suggests that they have prepared carefully for their big audition. Lead singer Dougy pours genuine helpings of soul into every song that he touches, and mid-set belter Down River is nothing short of thunderous, aided and abetted by all the band members clubbing in on vocals.

If this all sounds a little stadium-by-numbers, there’s enough sharp edges under the anthems to suggest that these boys can offer more surprises along with the exhilarating variety of their songs: their closer, the pulsing electro-rock of Science of Fear, screams to a halt with a minute of feedback that suggests they have a little more about them than your average band whose only ambition is to shift units.

Catch them whilst they’re still playing venues with roofs.

Will: Stag & Dagger was well worth attending- the line-up was great, although we could have hoped for some more established acts, and also for less clashes (The Temper Trap and Cold War Kids, extremely difficult to choose between!). What 2010 will bring, who knows, but we will be lining up once again, for this is one of the best bar/pub festival passes money can buy. Roll on the festival season..

So today Spotify released a demo of the mobile app that they’ve been working on in private: ever since the programme came into existence it’s only been a matter of time before they did this.

So what does this mean for music listeners? Most frequently, it’s been argued that it’s the end of the iPhone (the demo, very tellingly, uses a Google Android). However, it’s not quite that cut-and-dried: at the moment, Spotify offers a far from comprehensive selection of music (case in point, they offer all of Pavement’s albums bar Slanted and Enchanted), which needs to change before world domination can ensue.

Secondly, this misses out one of the key loves of music aficionados everywhere, being the first to get onto a new band/record. Even if Spotify has got the record labels onside with advertising revenues replacing royalties, it’s unlikely that they’ll ever stream records before they’re released, which means that people will still want MP3 format players to listen to ripped and leaked records on.

Thirdly, I don’t envisage that this will change the way that I listen to music: most of the records I own are still on CD, and I think that although many music fans have made the jump from hard formats to MP3, they might baulk at never owning a record ever again: it sounds stupid, but every music obssessive knows that part of the fun of having a collection lies in people being able to see how good your taste is, something that a Spotify world would remove.

Let’s throw open the floor: what does Spotify mobile mean for Coldcut readers?

‘Swagga Like Us’ was the underground hit of early 2008, bringing together four of the most consistent rappers of the last few years, and turning them into legends. They sealed the deal with a Grammy night performance, complete with the artist of the original sample, M.I.A. (in some of the coolest motherware, ever…).

For Lil’ Wayne, T.I., Kanye West and Jay-Z, that single collaboration was probably too large in scope to dare to emulate, set over a repetitive sample and featuring some really inventive lyrics- “You go see Weezy for the wordplay, Jeezy for the birdplay, Kanyeezy for diversity and me for controversy…”. The fans’ reception, however, has driven an unofficial reunion, with the same four artists back together on one track. Dem Jointz- a talented hip hop producer-ripped verses from lesser known tracks by each of the rappers, and then laid them over a piano driven backing track. This song is just brilliant, and it’s nice to see someone mixing up the original mash-up formula. Besides the heavy bass claps and synths, this is definitely the first time someone has recycled verses from 4 artists and laid down the production themselves- for a short while, this was thought to be original work from the four. In comparison with ‘Swagga Like Us’, this is a tame affair (M.I.A. is replaced by a vocodered backing vocalist), but no less perfect. Thumbs up…

As the Yeah Yeah Yeahs move further away from art-punk and towards the dancefloor, the Coldcut finds itself asking where the next great female-fronted band is coming from (we still haven’t quite got over the break-up of The Long Blondes)

The answer is San Francisco, and the band are LoveLikeFire, who appear to be something very special indeed. This opening salvo sounds like YYY with a drizzle of mopey 80s post-punk and shoegaze thrown in, with lead singer Ann Yu’s keening vocals and pained persona suggest a more angsty and desperate Karen O less all those designer dresses.

Additional Myspace kudos is due for the first ever inclusion of “popsicles” into a (good) pop song – if anyone else can think of an example of songs that have used lollies as a metaphor for heartbreak, answers on a post(card) (Lil Wayne and 50 Cent DO NOT COUNT).

Let it burn.

I’ve just spent the majority of the last two hours trying to find a definitive story on the latest Lil’ Wayne track. Provisionally titled ‘Triggerman’, a 1 minute snippet featuring Lil’ Wayne arrived a few weeks ago, only to be followed up a few days ago with a full length track. It’s a messy leak and we’ve been waiting for some concrete details to emerge.

And yet, no one seems to be able to definitively classify who this track belongs to, who the vocals are from, and what the ultimate destiny of this fantastic track are. I’m going to try and clear things up…

First of all, the song does not yet feature Madonna. She is said to be in the studio, laying down a vocal now… but as is common these days, the beat was offered to a number of the most popular pop artists (starting with Katy Perry, Flo Rida and then dotting around). Madonna’s management are said to have been interested- see Hard Candy Music for the full story.

RaVaughn- Revolver (Solo Vocal) (Link 2) (Link 3)

The version above is believed to be the final solo vocal reference. The lead is RaVaughn, a highly regarded backing vocalist (see this article at Madonnatribe.com for the full story), who laid down some demo vocals- they’re brilliant, and you might question why the track isn’t being released as it is. The backing is chart-baiting, with dense synths complemented by heavy claps. There are no male vocal harmonies (as in the version featuring Wayne), and it sounds far more polished, with some extra verses added on:

‘You’ve been hit by a smooth criminal… a bad girl. I got you crying so your momma sayin: ‘I can’t believe it’. I seen your type, bring a knife into a gun fight, caught up in love, right? Think I’m in love, right?’

There is, however, more in this yet… the only definitive piece of information is that the final version of this song will feature Lil’ Wayne. Someone even went to the trouble of generating the following image- note the ‘M’ on the bullet. And on the secondary version of the track, his verses (from the ‘Triggerman’ snippet) are included. Combined with the above image, it’s hard to claim this song is anything other than a huge metaphor for sex- the lyrics are suggestive and if you aren’t convinced, look closely at the shape of the bullet and the style of the text:

‘The victim didn’t complain, she just screamed: ‘Shoot again’. I gave her extra rounds, my barrel twist around… I love using weapon, and yes I use it well…. I never shoot and tell, I only shoot to kill… My love is a revolver.’

He’s on great form, coupled with a brilliant female foil and a strong beat. Auto-Tune is out of the question…

Lil’ Wayne ft. RaVaughn- Revolver (Demo) (Link 2) (Link 3)

Either way, this is a fantastic demo which will survive the leak on the quality of the beat/song structure. The final version (for Madonna’s Greatest Hits collection) will be fantastic if Madonna decides to take it on…

[RaVaughn Myspace]

So, here we are. Remix After All has arrived (well, in parts…). Any enterprising person could now run around the ten participating blogs (peek below) and snap up the full album. I’m telling you though, just wait. For tomorrow, each blog involved with this project will be posting the album in all it’s glory, at 320 kb/s as a zip. Individual download links at 320 will also be available…

Let’s get down to business. We chose someone fantastic to remix ‘Robot Rock’, our song choice. And that person is…. Immuzikation. We were really confident in his abilities, and still, he has completely surpassed our expectations. I’m not going to spoil the surprise for you, so just enjoy, and leave comments below for Immuzikation- he really has pulled off something special here.

Daft Punk- Robot Rock (Immuzikation Remix) 128 kb/s (Link 2) (Link 3)

We’re pretty confident that this remix will go down as one of the best on ‘Remix After All’, amongst some fantastic remix-artists and, therefore, tough competition. It really wasn’t fair on anyone else, though… for Immuzikation came to notoriety off the back of ‘One More Time To Pretend’, and is now currently touring as Very Disco, a bonafide Daft Punk Tribute. ‘Robot Rock’ also retains it’s title as our favourite song from Human After All, and Immuzikation has done it justice (although he’s probably sick of it by now!). Serious props must go to Jesper from The Lemur Blog for bringing us all together for this fantastic project. Spread the word if you can, leave comments for Immuzikation below and let people know about ‘Remix After All’. We are humbled to be a part of it.
